The floating piston separates the two positive air chambers, allowing for well-controlled interaction between them both halfway through the fork’s travel. This harmonizes the spring rate curve which significantly improves the performance of your fork.

Obtaining a linear and smooth spring rate curve with air suspension is difficult, because air pressure increases in an exponential manner when the air is compressed.

Because of this, classic air-sprung forks often lack crucial mid-stroke support.

To compensate for this shortcoming, many manufacturers will add too much compression damping.

Consequence: riders reduce air spring pressure to improve small-bump compliance.

However, because of the lack of mid-stroke support, many riders will also add tokens to their air springs, which only accentuates the excessive progressivity at the end of the travel.

The result is an unbalanced suspension: riders either lose sensitivity and small-bump compliance which negatively affects grip and comfort, or they give up control and support in turns.
